In Paradisum sets the traditional closing text of the Catholic Requiem Mass for solo soprano, solo tenor and mixed choir. The text prays that the angels may lead the departed into paradise, that the martyrs may receive them, and that they may find eternal rest with Lazarus.
The solo voices carry this prayer as a personal address; the choir embodies the chorus of angels and the shared prayer of the community. The music oscillates between mourning and consolation: it moves from a darker opening toward a brighter, more open close.
The work is conceived not as an ending, but as a passage — from the world into paradise, from mourning into rest.
In paradisum deducant te Angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te Martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem. Chorus Angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere aeternam habeas requiem.
