I – Requiem
III – Passacaglia senza variazioni
IV – Finale
Final, önceki bölümlerin izlerini bir araya getirir. Enerji yükselir, dokular sıklaşır, sonra çözülür. Eser bir cevap vermez; açık bir eşikte kapanır.
String Quartet No. 2 is in four movements. The movements oscillate between mourning, play, a fixed ground and a close; the quartet sound is heard both as a shared body and as four separate breaths.
I – Requiem
The opening is like a lament. Long bows, slow slides and heavy timbres establish a space of mourning. Here the sound does not hurry; it listens to the time of grief.
II – Scherzo
The second movement is a sharp, fast and uneasy game. Rhythmic figures pursue one another; humour and disquiet interweave. Lightness does not hide the tension beneath.
III – Passacaglia senza variazioni
A passacaglia — but without variations. The same ground is heard again and again; it is a structure that insists rather than changes. Repetition becomes not a relief, but a pressure.
IV – Finale
The finale gathers traces of the earlier movements. Energy rises, textures densify, then dissolve. The work gives no answer; it closes on an open threshold.
