Fantezi-Sonat, on iki vurmalı çalgıcı için yazılmış dört bölümlük bir eserdir. Başlık, hem serbest fantezi karakterini hem de sonat formunun yapısal disipliniyle olan ilişkisini işaret eder. Eser, ritmik enerji, tınısal renk ve formun yeniden işlenmesi etrafında döner.
I – Canzona ritmico
Açılış bölümü, Molto ritmico temposunda yoğun bir ritmik doku kurar. Bongo, kastanyet, güiro ve marakas gibi kısa süreli vurmalı çalgılar öne çıkar; timpani ise giderek motifik bir rol üstlenir. Bölüm, canzona geleneğinin ezgisel çağrışımını tamamen ritmik bir dile çevirir.
II – Intermezzo calmo
Kısa ve sakin bir ara bölüm. Metalik tınılar (vibrafon, çanlar) ve yumuşak zil dokunuşları ön plandadır. İlk bölümün enerjisinden uzaklaşan bu hareket, tını ve rezonansa odaklanır.
III – Duello dei timpani
İki timpani grubunun “düellosu”. Karşılıklı figürler, dinamik zıtlıklar ve mekanik tekrarlar bu bölümün omurgasını oluşturur. Diğer vurmalı çalgılar, düelloyu çerçeveleyen kısa müdahalelerle yer alır.
IV – Finale: Echo dei primo movimento
Final, birinci bölümün materyalini yankılar ve dönüştürür. Ritmik figürler geri döner; ancak artık daha parçalı, daha yansımalı ve daha yoğun bir dokuda işlenirler. Eser, açılışın enerjisinin bir “eko”su olarak kapanır.
Fantasia-Sonata is a four-movement work for twelve percussionists. The title points both to a free, fantasia-like character and to a relationship with the structural discipline of sonata form. The piece revolves around rhythmic energy, timbral colour and the reworking of form.
I – Canzona ritmico
The opening movement, marked Molto ritmico, builds a dense rhythmic texture. Short-duration instruments—bongos, castanets, guiro and shaker—come to the fore, while the timpani gradually take on a motivic role. The movement turns the melodic association of the canzona tradition into a purely rhythmic language.
II – Intermezzo calmo
A short, calm interlude. Metallic colours (vibraphone, tubular bells) and soft cymbal touches are in the foreground. Stepping away from the energy of the first movement, this section focuses on timbre and resonance.
III – Duello dei timpani
A “duel” between two groups of timpani. Reciprocal figures, dynamic contrasts and mechanical repetitions form the backbone of the movement. The remaining percussion instruments intervene in brief framing gestures.
IV – Finale: Echo dei primo movimento
The finale echoes and transforms the material of the first movement. Rhythmic figures return, now treated in a more fragmented, reflective and intensified texture. The work closes as an “echo” of the opening energy.
